September 2019 - After years of preparations and debate, building work finally started in August 2017 on the RijnlandRoute. The RijnlandRoute has to improve the accessibility and qualtiy of life in the Leiden region and is expected to be ready in 2022.
Challenging mega project
The construction of a bored tunnel (N434) covering a distance of 2.5 kilometres is an important part of this project. Before the boring of the tunnel could commence, preparations for the construction of the tunnel had to be made. Diaphragm walls have been installed at either end and anchor piles have been vibrated into the ground.
Anchor piles and plates for purlins
Anchor piles ensure the anchoring of the construction floor and strut frames have been installed to keep the diaphragm walls in place. They consist of tubes, profiles, anchoring rods and various components cut to size.
Voorbij Funderingstechniek from Amsterdam asked De Boer Snijbedrijf to cut steel S355J2+N to size for 60 tons of anchor plates and plates for purlins.
Special tunnel boring machine
The building of the tunnel has started in June 2019. The tunnel boring machine TBM has a drilling head of almost 11 metres in diameter. It digs and builds the tunnel at the same time. After six months one tunnel tube will be complete and boring of the second tube will commence.
