Circular pavilion wins BTTV 2021 - Circular Building

May 2021 - On Thursday 27 May, the prize winners of the Benelux Trophy Hot Dip Galvanising 2021 were announced. Rotocoat is proud that the Energy Knowledge Centre in Leeuwarden won the BBTV 2021 in the category Circular Building and that Rotocoat was able to contribute to this!

Galvanised steel can make a positive contribution to circular construction solutions. Galvanised steel structures have a long service life and, as long as they can be disassembled, they are ideal for re-use.

Jury motivation

The Energy Knowledge Centre is a prime example of circular construction and the consistent choices that go with it. The architects went all out for reusable and reused building materials. Building on a landfill is a challenge. Piles or heavy foundations were out of the question. With its 108 columns, the demountable galvanised steel skeleton rests loose on concrete slabs placed on a protective film in a sand bed. This construction method allows to erase the temporary intervention in the landscape if necessary.
